In my first blog as the newly appointed head of marketing, I wanted to share why I could not miss the opportunity to be a part of Aerospike.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work with category-leading software companies: Sun Microsystems with Java; HP with Mercury Interactive automated software testing; and Hortonworks with Open Enterprise Hadoop. In each case, their products turned the industry on its head and changed the way things were done.

Like the companies I’ve worked with before, Aerospike is an emerging category leader– this time, one that is solving a big problem most companies experience as they transform from traditional to digital enterprises. The Aerospike database is a game changer which takes on the analytical challenges of engagement systems.

Big Data, Speedy Transactions, Split-Second Insights

It’s interesting – most people don’t think about what’s going on behind the scenes when they pay bills from their phones, trade stocks online or search for the best travel deals on their tablets. They don’t realize that the enterprises they’re interacting with must process enormous quantities of data, make split-second decisions, and complete a huge volume of transactions – all in milliseconds.

But anything from outdated data analytics architectures, to unfit databases, to sluggish data processing speeds in these mission-critical operations can lead to failed transactions and unhappy customers – which can be costly for enterprises.

That’s where Aerospike comes in.

We’re on a mission to help enterprise get the speed, scale, and reliability they need for their mission-critical engagement systems. What’s more, the Aerospike database brings transactions and analytics together in real time, at the interaction point, to enable split-second decisions and insights.

A Different Approach to Databases

Many database solutions out there try to tackle the speed and scale challenges, including NoSQL variations and relational databases with caching. These typically don’t work predictably at high data volumes, because they’re not architected to solve these issues.

The Aerospike database is different. It uses Hybrid Memory Architecture and is built from the ground up to take full advantage of new memory and storage hardware advancements. This means the database can perform sub-millisecond analysis of large volumes of data, returning insights at the point of action for mission critical applications. This is done reliably, at minimal data center footprint (as low as 1/5 nodes compared to other first-generation NoSQL databases such as Redis, Cassandra or RDBMS with cache), and with complete autonomy. For an enterprise’s IT team, this means a high velocity, low latency, scalable database and lower DevOps total cost of ownership.

The Aerospike database has an excellent team behind it, led by well-known, seasoned executives who understand the ins and outs of very large, high performing databases. In addition, our culture is focused on innovation. We have built deep, collaborative relationships with all the major storage technology providers, including Toshiba, Intel, Micron, SanDisk, Violin Memory and Huawei. They share their roadmaps with us, giving us early exposure to their newest innovations so that we can keep our database optimized to perform at its best.

Powering Customer Success

The Aerospike database can be deployed across industries including telco, finance, retail, manufacturing, ad tech, media, and publishing. Here are just a few of our customer successes:

A Fortune 100 brokerage and investment management company needed to consistently and reliably support ever-growing workloads during trading hours. Without this capability, they faced consequences such as loss of revenue and use of delayed data for financial risk analysis. The company replaced its underperforming and costly cache plus relational database with Aerospike. The firm now achieves high trading volumes in very low latency and incorporates the most recent insights from transactions into risk profiling.

A global digital payment provider’s data architecture couldn’t cope with analyzing large data sets quickly enough to make accurate decisions. Consequently, legitimate transactions were denied and fraudulent purchases were approved, hurting profits and leaving customers dissatisfied. With Aerospike, this provider was able to process a large volume of data with millisecond latencies. This resulted in improved fraud detection, reduced false positives or negatives, and improved customer satisfaction.

A global telco solutions provider needed a high-performance database for subscriber data management to cater to the unique characteristics of their customers, based on real-time information about usage patterns, subscriber preferences, needs, and lifestyles. Aerospike provided predictable performance with the ability to process a large volume of data, and helped this provider replace its traditional data architecture.

A Defining Moment for Digital Transformation

As enterprises make themselves over from traditional to digital operations, databases will play an increasingly critical role. This is a defining moment in the database space and Aerospike is positioned as a leading solution for transactional analytics.

In future posts, I will talk more about what’s behind the shift to the digital economy, how enterprises are managing their digital transformations, and why Aerospike and transactional analytics are key parts of that shift.
