What is a database-as-a-service (DBaaS)?

DBaaS (Database-as-a-Service) solutions, such as Aerospike Cloud, offer a cost-effective way for database users to build scalable, real-time applications with a fraction of the servers and operational overhead required with traditional data solutions.

How DBaaS works

With a database-as-a-service (DBaaS), routine administration and database management are offloaded to the service provider, allowing developers and data architects to spend less time managing their databases and more time delivering mission-critical applications at scale.

The main difference with DBaaS is the backend – most DBaaS solutions are run on public cloud infrastructures such as Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform. However, the actual database functions the same as with a hardware solution, and for most users the difference is imperceptible.

Benefits of Database-as-a-Service

Simplified management

Most everyday administration and management requirements are handed off to your DBaaS (Database-as-a-Service) provider.

Less equipment

With everything managed in the cloud, there is no need to invest in expensive hardware or servers.

Increased flexibility and scalability

Aerospike Cloud, our DBaaS solution, is renowned for its ability to scale from gigabytes of data under management to terabytes and beyond.

Lower costs

Both infrastructure and operational costs are significantly reduced with a cloud-based solution.
