Announcing India’s Champions of Scale winners

Aerospike is proud to announce the first winners of the Champions of Scale awards, recognized this week at the Aerospike Bangalore and Mumbai summits. These honorees are the engineers and leaders behind India’s most demanding digital platforms, where real-time scale often determines success.

Financial services

HDFC, PhonePe, BillDesk, Mindgate Solutions, and CRED exemplify how India’s financial leaders are rethinking scale. 

HDFC Bank, one of India’s largest private banks, built a next-gen mobile platform for 25M+ users with active-active resilience and sub-19ms latency, enabling real-time personalization and secure, non-OTP transactions. 

PhonePe, India’s leading fintech super app, processes over 350M daily transactions and relies on Aerospike for sub-millisecond fraud checks, AI feature lookups, and 99.999% uptime across thousands of nodes in multiple data centers, achieving national scale with 8x cost efficiency. 

BillDesk, a leading online payment gateway, has enhanced reliability and speed for bill and merchant transactions, handling thousands of concurrent payments while reducing dependency on costly Oracle infrastructure.

Mindgate Solutions, which powers half of India’s UPI transactions, completes payments in under 100ms with 99.99% uptime and seamlessly scales to billions of digital transactions each month.

CRED, a fast-growing fintech platform serving millions of premium users, migrated from a hyperscaler-managed NoSQL service to Aerospike, reducing write latency by 84% and cutting costs by 55%, while using Aerospike as both a profile store and a streaming analytics engine for real-time personalization and campaign optimization.

Telecommunications

Airtel and Jio, two of India’s largest telecom players, highlight how real-time data is reshaping mobile, broadband, and 5G experiences.

Airtel, the longstanding leader in mobile and broadband, unified 350M+ customer profiles into its real-time Customer 360 platform on Aerospike, delivering hyper-personalized engagement with sub-millisecond latency, 600K writes and 100K reads per second, and 90% lower cost.

Jio, which has reshaped India’s mobile market and is expanding into 5G and Internet of Things (IoT), uses Aerospike for its real-time Home Subscriber Server. It supports 100M subscribers per cluster with sub-millisecond latency and geo-redundant scale.

E-commerce and retail

BigBasket, Flipkart, and Myntra highlight how India’s ecommerce platforms are using real-time data as a feature store for personalization and recommendations. 

BigBasket, India’s largest online grocer with 50M+ users and 800K daily orders, uses Aerospike to power real-time personalization, geo-based serviceability, and Smart Baskets with 2ms latency and 90% lower AI inference costs.

Flipkart, one of India’s leading e-commerce platforms, sustained 95M transactions per second during its Big Billion Days sale by running 170+ Aerospike clusters on Kubernetes. This delivered sub-millisecond search and recommendations with reduced overprovisioning costs.

Myntra, India’s top fashion e-commerce brand, relies on Aerospike as a feature store for homepage ranking and size recommendations. It supports 500K personalization ops/sec with 10x faster lookups than Redis at sub-millisecond latency.

Media, gaming, and advertising

InMobi, Dream11, and Mobavenue are shaping how media and adtech companies operate in real time. 

InMobi, a global mobile ad network serving 1.5B+ users, uses Aerospike for real-time profiling and AI-powered targeting, handling 2–3M QPS with sub-10ms latency and 90+ countries of reach.

Dream11, the world’s largest fantasy sports platform with 200M+ users, relies on Aerospike to support 10M+ concurrent users and 300M+ peak requests/sec during IPL, delivering sub-15ms latency and strong consistency.

Mobavenue, a fast-growing performance marketing platform, uses Aerospike to scale real-time audience segmentation and bidding optimization, achieving 25x higher compute throughput with ultra-low latency and 99.99% uptime.

The winners

Together, these honorees illustrate how AI and real-time data are converging to define what’s next for India’s digital leaders. This first batch of Champions demonstrates that scale is not just about handling more transactions. It’s about achieving predictability, resilience, and intelligence at speed.

Selection and judging process

Winners were chosen through an open peer-nomination process and public voting, followed by review and final selection by an esteemed judging panel. 

We thank our judges for their thoughtful review and selection: Sameet Agarwal, VP of Engineering at Google, who leads Google Storage and has built high-performance database and infrastructure teams at Microsoft, Facebook, and Snowflake; and Karthik Ramasamy, Head of Streaming at Databricks, with a career spanning leadership roles at Teradata, Juniper, Greenplum, Twitter, and Splunk. They were joined by Aerospike’s own Srinivasan (Sesh) Seshadri, Chief Evangelist, and Srini V. Srinivasan, Founder and CTO, both pioneers in databases and large-scale systems.

Their collective expertise across infrastructure, AI, and data-driven innovation helped identify organizations setting new benchmarks for real-time performance and scale.
